Open Question: Getting my Drivers License early in Virginia then I would have?

I am 14 and my birthday is in october, so I will be 15 soon. I'm originally from Illinois where you can take Drivers Ed as a freshman if your birthday is early enough. If I was still there, i would be taking it 2nd semester of freshman year. But as my 16 year old friend who lives here tells me that they don't allow you to take it until sophomore year? Even though I will have turned 16 basically right when Sophomore year begins. I understand there is like a 2 or 3 month waiting period before i can get my license after i turn 16 anyways? but I'm still afraid that I won't get it as early as I can.. My "actual" question is Can my parents pay for driving lessons separately? Or not through the school? Where I can take the course right when i'm allowed to by state law according to my age? I understand I can do online test for like, the writing portion. I need it as soon as possible because i live about 30 minutes from anywhere and both my parents work. Thanks for the help!...
