Hello. My mother in law passed away in August 2010 in Illinois. The heirs in her will were us and her other 3 children. We all live in Pennsylvania. The executrix is her friend who lives in Florida. She left about $3000 in her checking account, her possessions in her rented apartment + 2 storage units, and lots of debts. I keep in touch with the executrix, but after all this time it doesn't look like much has been done. My mother in law's possessions went to an auction company that hasn't complete the auctions yet. An attorney was retained who, I think, should have filed small claim affidavit. We paid for the funeral expenses ($3000) but when I asked to the executrix if she could pay us back with the money in mom's checking account, she said she couldn't until everything (auctions, etc...) was completed.
