Open Question: Republicans, proposition 8 was hypocritical?

Our constitution is founded upon the principle that minorities shall be protected. For example the electorate college is a means that protects a minority party(s) from majority tyranny. If the electorate college were eliminated liberalism would reign supreme regardless whether or not you liked it. President Obama would no longer dump millions upon millions of dollars into battle ground states, he would focus his money in states like California, New York, Illinois, and other states that have huge urban populated areas. This effort would result in a huge advantage and end in majority tyranny. What I find ironic is that the Republican party is so adamant about protecting this ideology which protects them, yet when it comes down to proposition 8, they believe it is perfectly expectable to use a majority vote ( direct democracy ) to dictate social order. Our founding fathers fear direct democracy, we are a republic. There are very few states who utilize direct democracy, because most states view it as breaking constitutional law. Is it ethical to determine law by direct democracy or not? We should choose one way or the other. Direct Democracy will lead to the end of conservatism in the federal government. I can assure you that. The only thing protecting you from this is the electoral college. @ Authur, you obviously did not read my post, it has nothing to do with gay marriage itself.
